People often ask whether writing stuff in Plain English is not the same as ‘dumbing down’. The phrase ‘dumb down’ itself is pretty loaded and perhaps deserves its own blog post, later.

There is, though, a fine line between turning dense writing into something that’s readable – and simplifying it so much that it reads like a child’s book.

So how to negotiate that line? As Albert Einstein said, “Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not one bit simpler.”
